Capturing the global mobile photography market, one lens at a time.

As a senior industrial designer working at Olloclip team from 2013 to 2017, I helped drive the evolution of our hardware from a Kickstarter accessory into a mature, globally recognized mobile photography ecosystem. The core challenge during this high-growth era was designing for a moving target under incredibly tight deadlines and high-stakes circumstances. Because Apple kept upcoming iPhone specifications completely secret (even companies selling products in their stores), we were forced to design ahead of the market by gambling on rumors to engineer clips for phones we only thought were coming. We had to plan multiple parallel designs so we could ensure tooling and production were ready to ramp up within weeks of the official iPhone launch. Every iteration demanded extreme accuracy to guarantee perfect optical alignment and mechanical tolerance. Navigating these constraints was critical to meeting Apple’s extraordinarily strict standards, which ultimately earned our team multiple CES Innovation Awards and secured our place as a cornerstone accessory featured in every Apple Store around the world.

As mobile content creation exploded, we expanded the product roadmap beyond the core lens clip to expand the ecosystem. We designed and developed our Studio Case with dedicated attachments, integrating flush, recessed mounting tracks directly into the protective structural shell so users could attach tripods, flashes, grips and more. We created a wearable pendant enclosure that transformed the lenses into an accessible, wearable design that promoted our product and made it easier to get the lens on in the right moment. As a neat party trick this pendant could also split apart and become a tripod. We also tackled video with the Pivot Grip - a compact, articulated handheld rig that provided fluid, passive video stabilization. By developing this lineup of cases, grips, and optical mounts under a cohesive design DNA, our team created the benchmark for mobile photography.
